Setup steps

  1. 1

Choose the right chamber type for your space

Soft-shell chambers (1.3–1.5 ATA) require a clear floor area of approximately 7 × 4 feet and a standard 110V outlet. Hard-shell chambers need 8 × 5 feet or more and may require a 220V circuit. Measure your intended room before purchasing.

  2. 2

    Prepare the room

Select a room with a hard, level floor (carpet is acceptable for soft-shell). Ensure good ventilation — the room should not be sealed or airtight while the chamber is running. Keep the area clear of flammable materials, open flames, and aerosols.

  3. 3

    Unbox and inspect the chamber

Inspect all components upon delivery. Soft-shell chambers include the inflatable shell, zipper seal, pressure hose, and air/oxygen inlet fittings. Hard-shell chambers arrive in crated sections — Metisine's installation team assembles them on-site.

  4. 4

    Set up the oxygen source

Most home wellness sessions use ambient air or a medical-grade oxygen concentrator connected via a fitted inlet port. Confirm inlet compatibility with your chamber model before connecting. Follow manufacturer guidance on oxygen flow rate.

  5. 5

    Pressure-test before your first session

Inflate the chamber to operating pressure with no person inside. Check all seams, zippers, and fittings for leaks using a soapy-water test. Confirm the pressure relief valve activates correctly at rated pressure.

  6. 6

Learn the controls and emergency exit procedure

All occupants should practice opening the zipper or hatch from inside before their first pressurized session. Soft-shell chambers have interior zipper pulls; hard-shell chambers have a manual interior latch. Practice this step every time a new person uses the chamber.

  7. 7

Schedule your first session and log it

Begin with a shorter session at lower pressure (e.g. 1.3 ATA / 30 minutes) and gradually increase duration and pressure over several sessions. Keep a session log (date, pressure, duration, notes). Consult your wellness practitioner about a protocol suitable for your goals.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a special room for a home hyperbaric chamber?

No dedicated room is required, but you need a clear, level floor area of at least 7 × 4 feet for a soft-shell chamber and 8 × 5 feet or more for a hard-shell unit. The room should be well-ventilated. Avoid garages with vehicle exhaust, basements without airflow, or sealed airtight spaces.

What electrical supply does a home hyperbaric chamber need?

Most soft-shell home chambers run on a standard 110V / 15A household outlet — the same as a typical appliance. Hard-shell and larger clinical chambers may require a dedicated 220V circuit. Confirm the electrical specification with Metisine before installation.

Can I set up a home hyperbaric chamber myself?

Soft-shell chambers are designed for owner self-setup and typically take 20–40 minutes to unbox and inflate. Metisine provides step-by-step remote orientation with every purchase. Hard-shell chambers are installed by Metisine's trained installation team — on-site installation is included in the purchase price.

How long does delivery and setup take?

Soft-shell chambers typically ship within 3–10 business days and arrive ready to set up. Hard-shell chambers are built to order; lead times vary by model (typically 4–12 weeks) with installation scheduled within 1–2 weeks of delivery.

Are there safety checks I need to do before every session?

Before each session: check that the zipper or hatch is fully sealed, that the pressure relief valve moves freely, and that the oxygen concentrator (if used) is connected securely. Clear the area of open flames, aerosols, and combustible materials. Ensure the person inside knows how to exit independently.
